MUWAH COMMUNITY PIGGERY PROJECT:EMPOWERING WOMEN, TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES;

Muwah, Pinyin - Cameroon – In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering economic independence and community sustainability, the Genewine Foundation, under the visionary leadership of Queen Dr. Genevieve Mezoh Taka, has launched the Muwah Community Piggery Project. This initiative is designed to empower women through sustainable pig farming, equipping them with the resources and knowledge needed to build successful livestock businesses.

The Queen’s Vision: A Legacy of Empowerment

Queen Dr. Genevieve Mezoh Taka, a go getter of hope and a leader with an unwavering passion for community upliftment, conceived this initiative out of a deep commitment to transforming the lives of women in Muwah and beyond. She has long been an advocate for economic independence, and through this project, she is setting the stage for a self-sufficient and resilient community.

“When you empower a woman, you empower a household, a generation, and a whole community. The Muwah Community Piggery Project is more than livestock farming—it is a pathway to dignity, self-sufficiency, and shared prosperity,” says Queen Dr. Genevieve Mezoh Taka.

For far too long, women in rural communities have struggled to find sustainable means of income. The Muwah Community Piggery Project is proof to the belief that change begins at the grassroots level, and by equipping women with the right tools, they can become architects of their own success. This initiative seeks to break the cycle of poverty and replace it with a cycle of growth, stability, and generational wealth-building.

What the Piggery Project Offers

This initiative is structured to provide selected women in the community with sponsorship packages worth up to 250,000 XAF (in kind), which include:

  • A healthy female piglet

  • Essential vaccines to ensure proper growth

  • Pig feed supply for up to 8 months

  • Training on best farming practices and animal husbandry

  • Mentorship from experienced livestock farmers

  • A support network of fellow women farmers to encourage collaboration and shared learning

This initiative does not only provide economic opportunities; it builds a community of empowered women who will inspire and support each other in their journey toward financial independence.

Qualifying Pig Fences: Ensuring Proper Housing for Piglets

Before applying for this program, all interested women must ensure that they have a suitable and acceptable pig fence, as proper housing is crucial for the health and productivity of the piglets. The pig fence will be inspected before an application is approved.

A qualifying pig fence should have the following features:

  • Strong and Secure Structure: Built with durable materials such as wood, concrete, or reinforced wire to keep the pigs safe from predators and theft.

  • Adequate Space: Spacious enough to allow free movement, ensuring the pig grows in a stress-free environment.

  • Proper Drainage System: Designed to keep the area dry and prevent waterlogging, which can cause diseases.

  • Ventilation and Shade: A well-ventilated space that protects the pig from extreme weather conditions, including excess heat and rain.

  • Easy Cleaning Access: A structure that allows for regular cleaning and proper waste disposal to maintain hygiene.

Applicants must meet these standards to be eligible for the first distribution of piglets, planned for mid-March 2025.

A Self-Sustaining Model: Giving Back to the Community

To ensure long-term sustainability, each participant will donate two piglets from their first successful farrowing to the next batch of beneficiaries through the procedures and policies of the foundation and directives of the Program Director. This pay-it-forward approach ensures that more women gain access to the program, gradually expanding its impact. Additional piglets will be sold to cover feed costs for future participants, making the program self-sufficient and ever-growing.

The first batch of women to benefit from this initiative will be 27 women with a combined benefit over the period worth 6,750,000 F CFA who meet the selection criteria. The next group of beneficiaries is expected to receive their piglets within 12 months from the date of the first distribution. This structured approach ensures continued expansion and sustainability.

The beauty of this model is that it ensures continuous growth and expansion. As one woman succeeds, she lifts another, and together, they build a thriving economy that benefits not just their households but the entire community.

Transforming Lives: The Power of Partnership

The success of this initiative depends on collective effort. The Genewine Foundation calls on organizations, donors, and individuals to support this life-changing program. By investing in this initiative, funders will play a pivotal role in transforming one life, one family, and one community at a time.

“Real change happens when we stand together. This is more than farming—it’s about economic liberation, food security, and community growth. We invite partners and funders to join us in this noble cause,” urges Queen Dr. Genevieve Mezoh Taka.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact. Whether you are a philanthropist, an organization dedicated to sustainable development, or an individual looking to be part of a transformative movement, this is your moment to change lives.

Beyond Muwah: A Movement Spreading Across the Region

The overwhelming support and enthusiasm for the Muwah Community Piggery Project will set the stage for expansion. The next phase will extend beyond Muwah into other parts of the Pinyin Clan, later reaching the Santa Sub-Division and beyond. This expansion will replicate the model in more communities, ensuring that more women gain access to sustainable livelihoods.

The dream is to see countless women rise from financial insecurity to a place where they can provide for their families with dignity and confidence. This is just the beginning, and with continued support, this initiative can spread across Cameroon and beyond, touching the lives of thousands of women.

Women interested in this opportunity can apply by filling out an application form for consideration. The application deadline is March 1, 2025.

The Muwah Piglet Program: Nurturing Independence, Dignity, and Growth

The Muwah Piglet Program stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment for widows in Muwah Village, offering them a pathway to regain independence through sustainable livelihoods. Launched under the visionary leadership of King Taka IV, this initiative embodies the community’s deep commitment to uplifting its most vulnerable members while fostering long-term economic resilience.

By providing widows with piglets and essential farming support, the program enables them to embark on a journey of self-reliance, dignity, and prosperity.

Empowering Through Animal Husbandry

At its heart, the Muwah Piglet Program is a transformative effort to ensure that widows have access to a sustainable source of income. For many widows, the loss of a spouse brings financial uncertainty. This program offers not just a lifeline but an opportunity for them to build a stable and independent future.

  • Piglets as a Catalyst for Change: Each widow is gifted a piglet to start her own small-scale pig farming venture. These piglets serve as a foundation for growth, as they multiply over time, creating new opportunities for income through the sale, trade, or breeding of pigs.

  • Agricultural Education and Support: Beyond the provision of piglets, widows receive practical training in animal husbandry. From feeding and breeding techniques to proper shelter management, this knowledge ensures the health and productivity of their livestock.

  • Ripple Effect: As piglets breed and multiply, the program extends its impact to others in the community. Widows can share knowledge, resources, and even piglets with fellow villagers, creating a network of mutual support and collaboration.

This simple yet powerful initiative turns vulnerability into strength, offering widows the tools to provide for themselves and their families.

A Tradition of Royal Compassion

The Royal Family of Muwah has been instrumental in the success of this program. Under the stewardship of King Taka IV, the initiative reflects the royal family’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the community. The Muwah Piglet Program is a living example of the King’s guiding philosophy:
"A thriving community begins with the empowerment of its most vulnerable members."

By actively championing the program, the royal family has ensured that widows in Muwah are not only supported materially but also respected and valued as essential contributors to the village’s cultural and economic fabric.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

The Muwah Piglet Program goes beyond addressing immediate needs—it is a sustainable solution designed to empower widows for the long term. By equipping them with resources and knowledge, the program:

  • Restores Dignity: Widows regain confidence as they take control of their livelihoods.

  • Fosters Independence: The ability to earn an income reduces dependency on external aid.

  • Creates Generational Impact: Children of widows benefit from improved living conditions, access to education, and better opportunities for the future.

This program doesn’t just change lives—it transforms the very structure of the community, ensuring that widows and their families thrive for generations to come.

As the Muwah Piglet Program continues to expand, the need for support grows as well. You can be part of this transformative initiative by contributing in the following ways:
